Project & Marketing Manager Sub Saharan Africa (Kenya, Ivory Coast, Uganda)

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Provide project management and marketing leadership for TerumoBCT’s (Terumo Blood Cell Technologies) “Wakanda” project to market devices for the treatment of sickle cell disease and other therapies within Sub Saharan Africa.  

 

This leadership role reports into the Country lead for Africa and plays a critical role in integrating thought leadership, resources and planning across functional, geographic, cultural and socio-political domains.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Project management: (Estimated 50-60% laying the groundwork and project execution with implementation partners and transition to a fully commercial project within 5 years)

  • Engage internal stakeholders to ensure alignment/understanding on Africa strategy, priorities and realistic implications for the market
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure implementation of new and multifaceted treatment pathway within focus countries
  • Ensure the feasibility of patient treatment within rural African geographies with implementation partners stakeholders i.e. physicians, NGOs, ministry of health officials, etc..
  • Be the main interface during the project towards the customer
  • Develop realistic project planning based on project parameters
  • Manage risks and ensure that the project stays within budget and on-time
  • Ensure the quality of project activities and deliverables
  • Facilitate site assessment to understand the local situation and detailed planning and site preparation

 

Market development:

  • Provide appropriate feedback from geographies to support product design, functionality, translation priorities, sales force collaterals, and customer communication material to insure effectiveness
  • Drive project planning, implementation with sales other key stakeholders
  • Work closely with EMEA marketing managers to successfully identify business opportunities by specific geographic area and develop support tools and new programs in a timely and high-quality manner
  • Manage strategic development and drive execution of all marketing initiatives
  • Support commercialization across customer segments and product portfolio
  • Develop and support KOL management plans
  • Ensure alignment with cross functional departments such as regulatory, medical affairs, market access, sales, service and operations

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business and/or marketing is preferred, or equivalent through experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing complex healthcare related projects “on the ground” in Sub Saharan Africa, preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience sales and marketing in emerging markets in the healthcare environment (i.e. pharmaceutical/medical devices)

 

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, manage and implement complex, large scale projects by effectively partnering with internal and external key stakeholders within an emerging market
  • Track record of successfully contributing to strategic planning and executing in rural African geographies and communities
  • Ability to work effectively and comfortably with multiple levels (within a blood center or hospital) as well as all functions and levels within the business organization
  • Ability to manage by influence in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Experienced in customer negotiations
  • Experience executing large infrastructural projects, preferably in hospital domain
  • Proven ability to drive revenue through creative sales channels and marketing programs
  • Creative thinker with the ability to provide both strategic and tactical innovation
  • Fluent in English, French and relevant African dialects both written and spoken
  • Ability to provide an inspirational vision and trigger strong engagement both internally as externally
  • Advanced sales and marketing techniques and a strong working knowledge of market/clinical execution
  • Extensive knowledge of sales and marketing strategic planning through program delivery/execution

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Anticipate approximately 75% time in Sub Saharan African market
  • Travel 40%
