JOB TITLE: Automation Engineering Technician I
1st shift Sunday - Tuesday and Every Other Wednesday; 5:30am-6:00pm
JOB SUMMARY
Work with minimal direction performs manufacturing equipment/process troubleshooting, provides technical training to peers, and supports continuous improvement efforts. Supports production and maintenance techs for troubleshooting outside of normal business hours. Analyzes process data to help understand process performance and shifts. Performs or directs technical assistance on equipment, products, materials, and processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs advanced troubleshooting for automated manufacturing equipment including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, controls and electrical systems; uses the PLC and online ladder logic to troubleshoot machine control issues.
- Maintains a base level of knowledge of the manufacturing technologies, processes and equipment to provide support for all processes and equipment in all areas.
- Performs all tasks in accordance with company and department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Can apply fundamental skills to troubleshoot in areas that they are not necessarily subject matter expert in.
- Supports production and maintenance techs for troubleshooting outside of normal business hours.
- Partners with engineering to develop and execute process validations.
- Develops standards, tools, and methods and provides or writes documentation to a level required by the department.
- Partners with maintenance technicians to assist with complex repairs to equipment, as applicable.
- Use Solid Edge/ Solid Works or other equivalent 3D modeling software to design, create drawings, and have parts fabricated.
- Analyzes machine data to help understand process and machine performance to proactively address emerging issues.
- Identifies a wide range of trends or problems and helps to solve or direct their solution and/or interprets and recommends actions.
- Identifies and recommends continuous improvement projects for equipment to improve OEE.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May be required to provide process data from machines to other engineering groups
- Serves as a lead, coach, and mentor to less experienced technicians and equipment operators.
- Assist in new automation activities including: Design reviews, URS, PFMEAs, FAT, and SAT.
- May be required to travel to machine supplier locations for periods of time.
- May be required to work on other shifts and to be “on call” as needed.
- Opportunities may exist for domestic/international travel
- Requires adherence to policies and procedures for hazardous materials, LOTO, equipment guarding, robotic safety, biohazard.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 2 – 4 years experience in a technical role, or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- Experience in the fabrication of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and assemblies preferred.
- Preferred experience in high speed automation.
- Preferred experience in RF welding applications.
- Preferred experience in Cam automation.
- Preferred experience in maintenance/technical support in a medical/GMP regulated environment

- Skills to interface with manufacturers, vendors, and contractors in the development of equipment and control systems.
- Knowledge to perform mechanical/electro-mechanical design in the development or improvement of new or existing test fixtures and equipment.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply complex mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Ability to work independently and multitask.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out tasks as directed and meet scheduled timelines.
- Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manufacturing Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, and hand/finger dexterity.
- Must be able to work in a clean room environment, adhere to associated policies, and perform gowning of clean room attire in the allotted time prior to start up.
- Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via cart or mechanized equipment.
- Requires good manual dexterity and visual acuity including ability to distinguish colors.
- Requires the ability to regularly perform repetitive motions and moderate force gripping.
- Must be able to work under florescent/LED lighting.

Target Pay Range: $33.00 to $42.00 - Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base: 7.0%
