Critical Services & Utilities Engineer

A vacancy currently exists for a full-time permanent Critical Services & Utilities Engineer. The successful candidate will  be responsible for ensuring development, support, and validation of equipment and processes, in addition to ongoing operation and improvement activity in production..

 

Working for our life sciences business based in Larne, you will be initially part of a project team of professionals and will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of critical services and utilities.

The role will entail providing engineering execution for the specification, build monitoring, qualification, validation and maintenance of new utilities, processes and services supporting the operation of a new manufacturing facility.
You should be adept at undertaking technical work individually or as part of a team and to take responsibility for all critical services and utilities activity to agreed timescales and within budget, working closely with vendors and internal stakeholders ensuring effective delivery.

General Duites

  • Implementing and maintaining maintenance programmes on all production critical services and utilities.
  • Assisting with the procurement of additional equipment, services, and utilities.
  • Project managing the delivery and validation of new services and utilities.
  • Responsible for commissioning documentation.
  • Specification, design and verification of facilities and utilities equipment.
  • Review vendor documentation against requirements.
  • Assisting the engineering team with maintenance as and when required.
  • Checking buildings / facilities on a regular basis, arranging repairs as necessary.
  • Carrying out or organising engineering work as directed.
  • Implementing and maintaining Engineering and Environmental SOP’s, Service Schedules and Work Instructions.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Calibration system and Spares management system.
  • Liaise with external agencies / contractors / suppliers as necessary.
  • Observe the company’s Health & Safety policy and follow all company procedures.
  • Comply with the environmental management system and minimise environmental impact where possible.
  • Support the development of a positive safety culture through leading by example in safety rule observance and a commitment to continual improvement.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required by your manager from time to time.

 

Key Measures:

 

Time:

  • Work with project teams to ensure that all services and utilities activities inclusive of commissioning and qualifications are completed in a timely manner and too the correct site requirements as required by the project or ongoing operations.

Cost:

  • Work within agreed project budgets and governance.
  • Work with project teams to forecast costs unique to the activity.

 

Quality:

  • Ensure conformance to all system qualifications requirements.
  • Recognition by peers of expert standing in critical Services and utilities engineering.
  • Effective transfer of new technology into production ready equipment, fit for final PQ execution.
  • Effective use of tools and techniques, such as FMEA.

 

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

 

  • Working in the Medical Device or Pharmaceutical Sector, or parallel sectors with a strong ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Experienced in RO, WFI, cooling water, Steam and Effluent Systems.
  • Degree or equivalent 3rd level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (i.e. Electrical or Mechanical engineering)
  • Capital projects involvement and management
  • Safety standards.
  • Maintenance strategies
  • PPM experience, setting up and managing maintenance systems for facilities, utilities and process equipment.
  • Experience of working with Computer-based maintenance systems and Business Management Systems and Autocad.
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) experience (highly desirable).
  • A good working knowledge and understanding of GMP practices and FDA regulations.
  • Good standard of IT literacy - especially MS Excel.
  • Good written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.

You will already be an experienced Critical Services Engineer or Utilities Engineer within a fast-paced engineering and regulated environment.
