The Vice President of Product Development and Engineering heads the global efforts for developing and supporting Terumo’s Blood and Cell Therapy products and solutions . Through engineering expertise, customer focus and people leadership, this role ensures that R&D leaders and engineers work within a culture of innovation and collaboration while meeting project timelines. As a member of the I&D Leadership team, this role has an ongoing responsibility to ensure the vision and strategies for the business are shared in clear and inspiring ways to all members of the I&D team.


The role drives accountability through successful partnerships with Marketing and Sales on devices and solutions that meet our clinician, patient and researcher customer needs, with Project Management on gating devices throughout the product development process, with Regulatory Affairs on clearance/approval and compliance, and with Quality Engineering and Operations to ensure smooth connection to manufacturing. From new product development, to device function, cost improvement and sustainability, this role provides the leadership needed to achieve our broad company goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Lead, plan and direct the Global TerumoBCT (Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies) Product Development activities with specific emphasis on Engineering
  • Provides vision, strategy and leadership across key engineering and product development functions including Disposables, New Product Development, Sustainable and Equipment Development
  • Partner with area leaders to foster an innovative, collaborative and resilient culture with a strong drive for technical excellence, results and accountability
  • Provide strategic direction for all Global TerumoBCT products across the product development life cycle
  • Ensures all business and product development activities are in accordance with applicable international, federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations
  • Effectively communicates with senior management and external customers across a spectrum of areas related to product development including technical, strategic, and business details
  • Coordinate transfer of information and/or technical assistance in the introduction of new products and processes into manufacturing operations
  • Maintain contact with government agencies and scientific programs to determine feasibility of conducting contract research; aid in submission of proposals and provides technical manpower and facilities for such contract work if granted
  • Provide technical support and assistance to Manufacturing sites for Sustaining Engineering projects supporting existing product base
  • Closely partner with Regulatory Affairs in offering all necessary data / input for regulatory submissions for 510(k)’s and CE Technical Files
  • Partner with the business to manage customer expectations, requirements, system change processes, technical product/market concerns, and release schedules/features
  • Provide oversight and direction on budgets, schedules and deadlines ensuring they are met

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

  • M.S. or PhD degree in Engineering and M.B.A preferred

 

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of related executive experience in medical device industry
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience at V.P. level  leading multiple teams of executives and technical areas
  • Capacity to define and communicate engineering challenges and provide guidance to top management in developing and implementing positive and proactive solutions 
  • Experience in a highly regulated medical device organization that develops and sales complex medical devices
  • Knowledge of business and leadership principles involved in strategic planning, tactical execution, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of applicable government regulations

Additional Physical Requirements

 

  • Requires the capability for 30% + travel domestically and internationally

 

 

 

Target Pay Range:  $214,000.00 to $267,600.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  45.0%
