JOB SUMMARY

Works under limited supervision, interacting with engineering, marketing, facilities, manufacturing, and I&D.  To design and develop precision parts and systems using complex machinery and design software.  Provides key inputs for enhanced iterations of prototype parts.  Assists in design and development of prototype and production tooling used in manufacturing and plastic injection molding.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Advanced  skills  programming and machining with 3 axis CNC and Conventional Machine Tools.
  • Experienced in Tool Room Grinding, Tool & Die work, Sheet Metal Fabrication and Mold Making.
  • Can participate in planning work assignments in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Discusses timelines and collaborates with customers.
  • Recommends whether work should be outsourced and helps in the selection of vendor.
  • Focuses on input into the proper care and maintenance of tools, equipment, and facilities including general housekeeping.
  • Reads and interprets routine and complex prints, sketches, drawn points, or verbal directions to direct the fabrication of precision machined parts and production tooling.
  • Communicates well on a technical level with all customers and effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Inspects work for compliance with blueprints, process sheets, and written or verbal specifications using basic inspection equipment.
  • Recommends changes to operating policy when necessary.
  • Provides input to designers or engineers on parts configuration with alternative solutions for reduction of manufacturing complexity and tooling costs.
  • Works with internal resources to resolve problems.
  • Mentors, trains, and provides input to less experienced model/mold makers and technicians in fabrication.
  • Effectively works with others to achieve organizational, department, and business goals.
  • Works closely with Supervisor to acquire tools and supplies to support department.
  • Maintains disposable tooling inventory.
  • Works closely with RQA to schedule inspection of work when necessary.
  • Manages Model Shop administrative functions in the absence of the Supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

High school diploma or GED.

 

Experience

Minimum 10 years experience.

 

               

 

Other Required Skills include:

 

  • Ability to comprehend and effectively use the Model Shop Management System.
  • Comprehend and interpret blueprints.
  • Requires extensive and practical knowledge of different materials and their workability, such as plastic to exotic tool steels and their uses by grinding, heat treating and machining.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of shop mathematics including applicable trigonometry. 
  • Business focused to provide a high level of customer service in the area of machining/mold making.
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Positive approach to problem solving and the ability to mentor others to that approach.
  • Understanding of capabilities of all standard/nonstandard shop tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and use of relevant CAD/ CAM software applications and skills to use them effectively.
  • Prototype Design and Development via verbal communication and sketching related to Mold Making ,Tool & Die

    Work and Fabrication.

  • Possesses skills to inspect precision parts using CMM and related measuring equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.
