Sr. Cost Accountant – Operations



This position will directly support the Operations Finance and Cost Accounting function for Terumo BCT’s Colorado factory locations, including the daily management of new and existing financial processes, systems, and reporting, and development of new capabilities.  The position will involve elements of 1) manufacturing cost analysis, such as product costing and variance analysis involving materials, labor and overhead, 2) reporting of key financial information to management leaders of the Operations organization, 3) coordination of annual planning and periodic forecasting with Operations business partners, and 4) accounting and internal control activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and performance of key internal controls.



  • Work on the development of standard costs for manufactured products using knowledge of bills of material, routers, and direct labor practices.  Monitors actual manufacturing performance against these standards.
  • Computes and analyzes manufacturing variances and reviews with manufacturing personnel, providing timely and meaningful cost accounting information and analysis for manufacturing. 
  • Analyzes problems and implements solutions to ensure consistency and accuracy of the financial systems. Represents the department or company with internal and external customers to resolve problems of a non-routine nature.
  • Responsible for evaluating the adequacy of existing procedures relating to inventory, production, and tracking, detailing weaknesses, and implementing improvements. 
  • Provides training on transactions and procedures to internal customers as required.
  • Analyzes and summarizes accounting data to make comparisons to similar data for other periods and prepares explanatory comments.
  • Assists department managers with their budgets.
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors financial systems to ensure integrity in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Terumo BCT accounting procedures.
  • Ensures inventories are properly valued in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and assets are safely guarded.
  • Analyzes General Ledger or sub-system output for consistency and accuracy and resolves questionable items.
  • Develops reporting capabilities and understanding of the multiple systems applications within the Terumo BCT environment.





Bachelor’s degree, prefer major in Accounting, Finance or Operations Management. 



Minimum 3 years experience in an accounting and finance role

Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

SAP experience preferred


An advanced degree or certification, such as an MBA, CCE, CMA or CPA beneficial.

  • Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Power Point, Word, Access
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely, high quality, and accurate work.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and productive work habits. 


An equivalent competency level acquired through a variation of these qualifications may be considered.

Target Pay Range:  $67,600.00 to $84,500.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
