Working under minimal supervision of the required authority, provides legal assistance and/or research and data management assistance to the applicable department. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintains and prepares confidential and proprietary information as related to various departments.
  • Has frequent contact with outside counsel and/or internal customers on complex matters, implementing the various tactics required of the job. 
  • Responsible for identifying issues and working with others to develop solutions to improve systems, procedures, etc.
  • Initiates and completes special projects with little or no input which necessitate individual judgment, initiative, research, and deductive reasoning.
  • Forecasts and meets major project deadlines and budgets. Takes the initiative to report on project status and anticipates and alerts supervisor and internal customers of potential project difficulties.
  • Participates in department activities and contributes to a teamwork environment, operating according to the group’s agreed upon expectations.
  • Performs independent legal or compliance research.
  • Manages the trademark process including preparing trademark applications, preliminary amendments, amendments, statements of use, intake of potential trademark matters including docketing, filling instructions to foreign associates, obtaining appropriate officer’s signatures and notaries, renewal fees for all trademarks, extension requests to file statements of use, extension requests for oppositions, communication on all trademark statuses, and assignments for the Company and its affiliates for attorney review.
  • Performs initial in-house and outside vendor trademark searches, result analysis and reviews watch notices.
  • Identifies classes and draft descriptions of goods/services for trademark applications for attorney review.
  • Organizes complex collections of documents for litigation and for other projects.
  • Assists patent secretary with general departmental docketing including preparing weekly docketing report for departmental meetings.
  • Prepares initial drafts of Company or Business Patent Committee Meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Provides status report on trademark matters at patent committee meetings.
  • Reviews marketing documents and labels for proper trademark usage. Reviews documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists in the drafting of intellectual property contract and license provisions. Manages licensing portfolio to ensure reporting dates are met.
  • Assists in other intellectual property tasks when requested by an attorney.
  • Manages and drafts invention reporting and disclosure submittal including docketing and checklist for attorney review.
  • Assists in the preparation of patent applications and amendments including the drafting of design patent applications, oath and declarations, preparing communications for patent filing instructions for foreign associates, maintains patent docket, obtain appropriate signatures, and terminal disclaimers and assignments for the Company and its affiliates for attorney review.
  • Prepares and maintains annuity book for payment of maintenance fees.
  • Communicates with draftsman concerning drawing requirements.
  • Prepares initial drafts of Company or Business Patent Committee Meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Maintains patent marking information and communicates such information for publications.
  • Coordinates training with respect to intellectual property database.
  • Provides new issued patent information to inventors and managers and for intranet.
  • Responsible for communication with vendor concerning expansion and use of intellectual property database, assisting in drafting intellectual property contract and license provisions as well as other intellectual property tasks when requested by attorney.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

 

Experience

Minimum 5 years experience. Experience in preparing and filing applications and supporting papers with the US Patent and Trademark Office is highly desired.

  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Requires paralegal certification. 

Colorado Notary Public or qualified to become a Colorado Notary Public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Target Pay Range:  $33.00 to $42.00 -  Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
