S4 Hana Principal Configuration Analyst – SAP Global Trade Services (GTS)
JOB SUMMARY
This role provides deep functional and configuration leadership for SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) operating within an SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud (RISE) environment and supporting a globally distributed manufacturing and logistics network, including internally operated facilities and 3PL-managed warehouses.
The position is responsible for partnering with our systems integration from design, development, stabilization, while supporting the business in best practices to govern end-to-end global trade compliance processes, including export and import control determination, embargo and sanctioned party screening, customs compliance, and trade documentation. The role will aso support complex cross-border, intercompany, and triangular shipment models where ownership, physical movement, and commercial flows span multiple legal entities and countries.
The Principal Configuration Analyst serves as a bridge between Global Trade Compliance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Integration, and IT Architecture, ensuring SAP GTS solutions align with SAP S/4HANA business processes, embedded SAP Transportation Management execution flows, Private Cloud constraints, and long-term enterprise architecture standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
SAP S/4HANA GTS – Operational Excellence
- Own and enhance SAP Global Trade Services configuration on SAP S/4HANA as the authoritative system for international trade compliance and controls.
- Support and optimize GTS capabilities across:
- Export control determination and legal control
- Embargo and sanctioned party screening
- Product classification and compliance data governance
- License management and utilization tracking
- Customs relevance determination and trade documentation orchestration
- Ensure GTS solutions effectively support complex trade scenarios, including:
- Cross-border and intercompany trade flows
- Triangular and multi-country shipment models
- Regulated manufacturing and distribution environments
- Partner with Global Trade Compliance, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Finance teams to resolve trade compliance exceptions while maintaining stable operations across internal and externally operated logistics facilities.
S/4HANA GTS Design within a TM and 3PL-Integrated Landscape

Define and own GTS functional scope across:
- Product classification and trade data determination
- Legal control, embargo, and screening frameworks
- Licensing scenarios and compliance controls
- Customs compliance integration and documentation
Design end-to-end trade compliance scenarios that explicitly account for:
- Transportation execution managed through SAP S/4HANA embedded TM
- Multi-leg and multi-modal shipment flows
- Physical execution handled by 3PL-managed warehouses using external WMS/TMS platforms
Establish clear integration and ownership boundaries between:
- SAP GTS (trade compliance determination, controls, auditability)
- SAP S/4HANA core processes (SD, MM, FI)
- SAP embedded Transportation Management (execution context and transportation stages)
- External 3PL execution and brokerage platforms
Drive adoption of SAP standard GTS capabilities and sanctioned extensibility (configuration, Fiori apps, BAdIs) while minimizing custom logic that conflicts with Private Cloud governance and RISE constraints.
Integration, Financial Control & Compliance
Ensure SAP GTS integrates sustainably with:
- SD and MM delivery and procurement processes
- SAP embedded TM for transportation execution context
- FI for compliance-relevant postings and audit traceability
- External customs brokers, trade service providers, and logistics partners using approved integration patterns
Govern trade compliance accuracy, consistency, and auditability regardless of whether logistics execution occurs internally or at partner-managed facilities.
Validate GTS processes against business, financial, and regulatory requirements, recommending operational or process changes where SAP standard capabilities provide stronger compliance control.
Produce and maintain high-quality documentation including:
- Functional requirements and design specifications
- End-to-end trade compliance and logistics integration flows
- Configuration rationale and compliance traceability mappings
Develop and execute test strategies, scenarios, and scripts supporting GxP / GAMP 5 / CSV validation for trade compliance processes impacting regulated supply chains.
Act as a GTS subject-matter expert during audits, cutovers, and critical production incidents.
