Principal Configuration Analyst – SAP Production Planning (PP/MRP, PP/DS)

Job Summary

This role provides deep functional and configuration leadership within an existing global SAP ECC environment that is actively transitioning to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud, with a strong emphasis on Production Planning (PP/MRP) and the introduction and adoption of PP/DS. The position is responsible for stabilizing, optimizing, and extending ECC-based manufacturing planning capabilities while designing forward-compatible solutions aligned to SAP S/4HANA and SAP PP/DS roadmaps.

The Principal Configuration Analyst acts as a bridge between manufacturing operations, supply chain planning, and IT—ensuring continuity of operations during transformation, minimizing technical debt, and enabling advanced planning capabilities without disrupting regulated manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

SAP ECC Operational Excellence (Current State):

  • Own and enhance SAP ECC PP/MRP configuration to ensure reliable and compliant production planning and execution across global manufacturing sites.
  • Support and optimize:
    • Discrete and repetitive manufacturing strategies
    • Work centers, routings, bills of material (BOMs), and production versions
    • MRP parameters, lot sizing, lead times, and planning strategies
    • Capacity evaluation and rough-cut capacity planning
    • Production order creation, release, confirmation, and settlement
    • Yield management, scrap handling, and variance analysis
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Finance to resolve planning and execution issues impacting service level, inventory, and cost.

S/4HANA & PP/DS Transformation Enablement (Future State):

  • Lead functional design and readiness activities for the transition from ECC PP/MRP to S/4HANA with PP/DS, including delta analysis and process harmonization.
  • Define PP/DS functional scope, planning models, and heuristics aligned to business requirements (finite scheduling, sequencing, constraint-based planning).
  • Collaborate with BASIS, integration, and architecture teams to ensure PP/DS design aligns with S/4HANA Private Cloud constraints and SAP best practices.
  • Translate ECC planning constructs (MRP, capacity, production versions) into S/4HANA-compatible and PP/DS-ready designs.
  • Actively reduce custom code dependency by prioritizing standard configuration and extensibility options.

Cross-Functional & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Validate SAP solutions against business and regulatory requirements, recommending process change where SAP standard provides a superior outcome.
  • Produce clear documentation including:
    • Functional requirements and specifications
    • End-to-end process flows and swim lanes
    • Configuration rationale and design decisions
  • Develop and execute test strategies, scenarios, and scripts supporting GxP / GAMP 5 / CSV validation for manufacturing systems.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise during audits, validations, and production incidents.

Leadership & Delivery

  • Serve as a functional lead for small to mid-sized initiatives, enhancements, and transformation workstreams.
  • Facilitate workshops and design sessions with global, geographically distributed teams.
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to functional standards, templates, and governance.
  • Share responsibility for critical incident resolution and on-call support.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of SAP PP/MRP experience in complex manufacturing environments, with hands-on ECC and S/4HANA configuration expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting live SAP ECC production planning operations while preparing for or executing an S/4HANA migration.
  • Practical exposure to PP/DS concepts (ECC add-on, embedded S/4HANA, or design-level experience), including finite scheduling and capacity constraints.
  • Experience leading or contributing to SAP transformation or major enhancement projects.
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe-based delivery models.
  • Strong background in regulated manufacturing environments (medical device, life sciences, or similar).

Desired / Additional Skills

  • Experience with one or more of the following SAP modules or integrations:
    • MM, QM, LE, WM/EWM
    • Manufacturing costing and variance analysis
  • Exposure to S/4HANA Private Cloud (RISE) operating models.
  • Understanding of integration touchpoints with MES, quality systems, and warehouse automation.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a manufacturing-first mindset
  • Ability to balance short-term operational stability with long-term architectural integrity
  • Clear, concise communicator capable of translating complex planning logic to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to influence without authority across business and IT teams

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

Standard office environment requirements apply, including sitting, standing, speaking, reading, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

Additional Information

  • Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 4–5 times per year).

Target Pay Range:  $126,600.00 to $158,300.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
