Molding/Equipment Maintenance Technician




  • Independently performs repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on all molding equipment.
  • Performs mold setups and mold insert changes.
  • Performs final mold fitting for insert shutoffs.
  • Applies aptitude for mechanical and electrical repairs and consults with engineers and vendors for advanced troubleshooting. 
  • Implements permanent corrective actions to eliminate recurrent problems by developing the concept, prototype, design, documentation and modification of engineering control documents.
  • Develops and provides technical guidance and training to lower level trades.
  • Performs documentation and regulatory recordkeeping responsibilities.
  • Designs and builds special tools and instruments for use in maintenance of equipment.  May oversee others in the design and building of tools and instruments.
  • Proactively analyzes process information to refine maintenance procedures or initiate equipment modifications.
  • Works with engineers and others during the building and installation of new equipment to ensure attention to maintenance of new equipment.  Responsible for the preparation of maintenance documentation for new equipment.
  • Prepares proposals for expenditures on equipment repairs and replacements.
  • Coordinates work of outside mold makers, contractors, and vendors.



  • May be required to work on other shifts and/or willing to be “on call” as needed or schedules.
  • May lead special projects and assist supervisor with audits and/or recordkeeping.
  • May handle, collect, label and transfer hazardous waste following established procedures and guidelines.
  • May function as a lead for a group of technicians including scheduling, work direction, resource information, and/or training.
  • Must successfully complete training on biohazards.
  • Must be able to use lifting equipment such as bridge cranes, jib cranes to lift molds and equipment in excess of 5000 pounds.
  • Assists with spare parts inventory including purchasing spare parts, equipment and/or services, ordering parts, and tracking material and parts usage.





High school diploma or GED.



Minimum 7 years experience

  • Substitution of degree with relevant experience is evaluated on a case-by-case basis as to relevancy to the specific electronic and mechanical maintenance required in the work area to be assigned.



  • Experienced with injection molding, plastics processing, tooling and assembly.
  • Hands-on injection molding set-up experience and knowledge of mold design and construction.
  • Capable of doing mold maintenance including mold configurations without error.
  • Requires a progressive record of continuing and broadening knowledge and scope in maintenance techniques and new equipment technologies.
  • Requires comprehensive and practical knowledge in maintenance of a wide variety of equipment including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, chemical, electrical power, digital and analog electronics, and data communications.  Thorough understanding of industrial programmable logic controllers desired.
  • Ability to train less experienced technical staff.
  • Ability to recognize systemic problems and develop solutions.
  • Experience and aptitude for redesign or modifications of equipment.
  • Demonstrated analytical nature and excellent problem diagnostic skills.
  • Skilled in cleanroom and robotics processes
  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.



An equivalent competency level acquired through a variation of these qualifications may be considered.



Manufacturing Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, and hand/finger dexterity.

  • Must be able to work in a clean room environment, adhere to associated policies, and perform gowning of clean room attire in the allotted time prior to start up.
  • Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds and transport up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.
  • Requires good manual dexterity and visual acuity
  • Must be able to work under florescent lighting.
  • Requires the ability to sit or stand through the duration of a shift.

Target Pay Range:  $23.00 to $29.00 -  Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
