JOB SUMMARY

 

Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies (Terumo BCT) is seeking a motivated undergraduate student for a summer internship within the Cell Therapy Laboratory. This internship provides hands on laboratory experience supporting ongoing research, development, and laboratory operations related to cell culture and cell therapy applications.

 

The intern will work closely with scientists to perform meaningful laboratory tasks that contribute to team objectives, while developing technical skills in cell biology, aseptic technique, and data documentation. This position is ideal for students interested in biotechnology, biomedical research, or medical careers who are seeking applied industry experience.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

The intern will gain practical experience in mammalian cell culture and related laboratory techniques through structured training and active participation in laboratory work. Responsibilities and training may include:

 

  • Work with adherent and suspension cell lines, including cell handling, seeding, passaging, and maintenance
  • Apply and maintain aseptic techniques in a regulated laboratory environment
  • Perform routine cell culture tasks in support of laboratory experiments
  • Use automated cell counters to measure cell concentration and viability
  • Monitor cell growth, metabolism, and health over time
  • Evaluate cell morphology and document observations
  • Support downstream analytical activities, including sample preparation for fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry analyses
  • Assist with reagent preparation, media preparation, and general laboratory upkeep

 

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Attend cross functional meetings where generated data is relevant for other business functions
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings, technical discussions, and training sessions

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program or recently completed bachelor's degree (same year).

 

Experience

No prior experience required.

 

Skills

  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.

Target Pay Range:  $33.00 to $33.00 -  Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
