JOB TITLE: Intern - Azure IoT – Cloud Engineer - Graduate
Location: Remote / Hybrid (2-3 days a week in the Lakewood Office)

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join a cross-functional team delivering a proof-of-concept project focused on the integration of IoT medical devices with cloud-based healthcare platforms. The project leverages Azure services to enable secure communication, real-time monitoring, and seamless data exchange using standards such as MQTT 5.0, HL7, and FHIR.
This internship is ideal for candidates pursuing careers in IoT, cloud computing, digital health, or biomedical engineering and looking to gain hands-on experience with Azure IoT, Digital Twins, and healthcare interoperability.
Key Responsibilities: Interns will work collaboratively, with each focusing on one or more of the following areas:
1. IoT Communication & Monitoring
· Develop secure outgoing communication from IoT devices to Device Management System (DMS) using MQTT 5.0 via Azure IoT Hub
· Implement real-time monitoring and alerting dashboards
· Enable remote support and troubleshooting services for connected devices
2. Digital Twin & Configuration Management
· Integrate and manage device configurations using Azure Digital Twins and Device Provisioning Services (DPS)
· Build a configuration history system for tracking changes from device to cloud
· Enable pushing configurations—both new and historical—from the cloud to edge devices
3. Certificate and Identity Management
· Implement X.509 certificate management workflows using Azure DPS to support secure device provisioning and communication
4. API Development & Healthcare Integration
· Build an API layer for bidirectional communication with customer systems
· Integrate with HL7/FHIR standards using Azure Health Data Services and tools like Mirth Connect
· Ensure data mapping, normalization, and transmission to align with healthcare interoperability standards

- FHIR / HL7, REST APIs
- Python, C#, Node.js
- GitHub, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines (optional but valuable)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science or Biomedical Engineering, or related field. Pursuing a master’s degree is preferred
- Hands on experience with any of the following: Azure IoT Hub, Azure DPS, Azure Health Data Services or Mirth Connect
- Basic understanding of IoT communication protocols (MQTT preferred)
- Familiarity with Azure cloud services
- Exposure to healthcare standards (FHIR, HL7) is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Target Pay Range: $32.00 to $32.00 - Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
