JOB TITLE:  Global Business Technology Leader - Cell Therapy Technologies

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Global Business Technology Leader is a member of Terumo BCT’s (Blood and Cell Technologies’) Cell Therapy Technologies business team reporting to the General Manager (GM) leading the global business area.  This role evaluates industry needs and technology trends to provide ecosystem solutions in Cell & Gene Therapy (C&GT) and drive on-going competitive relevance.  This leadership role is accountable to ensure alignment of the Cell Therapy strategy with development teams and business partners across the enterprise for timely delivery of unmet needs for patients in the market. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Business and Market Strategy

  • Acts as the primary technology thought leader in the development of the business strategic planning and business development activities
  • Drives alignment with functional partners to ensure product development execution and identification of new opportunities to deliver on the business strategy
  • Accountable for the investment strategy (make, buy, borrow) and resulting execution to meet ROI justifications
  • Responsible for portfolio innovation, new product development, sustaining activities to end of life decision-making
  • Facilitates with Leaders “Enterprise-focused Portfolio Management” conversations that drive overall customer and business benefit and optimize synergies between business areas

 

Technology Leadership

  • Deliver accessible innovations in partnership with I&D that positively impact patient outcomes and enable business growth across the business (area) portfolio of products and services to serve unmet, in-demand medical needs.
  • Demonstrates systems level thinking across the market, ecosystem, business (area) portfolio and develops innovative solutions/programs integrating product- device, disposables, services, software, digital/data, technology, and science.
  • Provides critical input to the development of product strategy including evolution and enhancements of existing products and research and development of new and emerging products as well as designing for usability, serviceability, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Prioritizes and develops customer-centric roadmaps, enables ROI investment approval and program oversight to enable rapid and profitable business growth

 

Portfolio and Resource Management

  • Fosters dialogue which generates creative approaches and productive tradeoff discussions that create linkages across markets, businesses, platforms, and product portfolios to maximize opportunities across the enterprise
  • Proactively partners with key stakeholders across functions and business portfolios to define and align a robust technology roadmap to achieve long-term business objectives
  • Manage budget and tradeoffs across business portfolio with active enterprise alignments on synergy and prioritization to benefit overall Terumo BCT revenue and operating margin

 

 

Partnerships and Innovation

  • Conducts assessments and proposes “Build or Buy or Borrow” recommendations on capabilities and partnerships
  • Liaise with global technology and industry experts (internal/external) to drive speed to market, new innovations, and market relevance
  • Cross-functional accountability to meet ROI and Margin commitments throughout the duration of the product life cycle, for both organic innovation and external partnerships
  • Foster a culture of innovation and resilience with a strong drive for world-class technical and process excellence, adherence to budget commitments, results, and accountability
  • Partners with business leaders and HR to promote with external partners the Terumo Group Code of Conduct and champions the Terumo Core Values while building an inclusive culture and respectful workplace for all associates

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Science, or STEM field; Master’s, Ph. D and/or MBA preferred

 

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience of progressively responsible management experience in global research and development of medical device/pharmaceutical products/software/value added services. 
  • Executed successful product development and partnerships (preferable in C&GT space)
  • Experience in assessing and launching new products (organic and inorganic), applications and business models
  • At least 5 years’ of global, senior, or general management experience, preferably in the Cell & Gene Therapy industry
  • An equivalent competency level acquired through a variation of these qualifications may be considered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds 

 

Additional Physical Requirements

International and domestic travel (up to 35%)

 

Target Pay Range:  $181,300.00 to $226,600.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  30.0%
