Mechatronics Engineering Technician



Independently performs technical and analytical work on complex automated assembly machines. Scope of work includes but is not limited to: Mechanical and controls process improvements, assist other manufacturing support groups in troubleshooting and repair of manufacturing equipment. Performs work which requires a broad knowledge of automation and principles and practices related to manufacturing.




  • Using mechanical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and correct failures on automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintains, accurately follows, and records protocols/procedures and test logs.
  • Identifies a wide range of trends or problems, including the most complex, and solves or directs their solution and/or interprets and recommends actions. 
  • Collaborates with engineers and leads the design, development, and building of test fixtures, test protocols/procedures, monitoring strategies, or inspection results.
  • Maintains supplies, orders parts, and calibrates and maintains equipment.
  • Performs accurate recordkeeping.
  • Develops standards, tools, and methods and provides or writes documentation to a level required by the department.
  • Maintains verification files and writes comprehensive reports summarizing test results to support final product Performs accurate recordkeeping. Records test data and uses software such as MS Excel to chart/graph and display data.
  • Provides work direction and training for less experienced technicians.
  • Develops standards, tools, and methods and provides or writes documentation to a level required by the department.
  • Under the guidance of engineers, writes test protocols and reports and executes test plans.



  • May require work outside normal hours.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be necessary.






  • Technical degree or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Course work in the following is preferred:
    • Advanced mathematics, statistics, metrology
    • Engineering disciplines (mechanics, fluids, dynamics, material science) or related technical training
    • Hydraulics, electronics, mechanics, computer programming or related fields
    • Chemistry, biology, physics, physiology, anatomy, or related sciences



Minimum 5 years of experience.



  • Planning skills to work independently and manage own time effectively. Ability to carry out a wide range of projects and resolve the most complex problems.
  • Understanding of automation/control systems (knowledge of all controls systems not required)
    • PLC/ladderlogic
    • Camera inspections systems
    • Motors and drives
    • Electrical schematics
    • Robotics (ABB, Fanuc, etc)
  • Understanding of manufacturing proceses (knowledge of all processes not required)
    • RF welding
    • Heat sealing
    • Ultra sonic welding
    • Leak testing
    • Injection molding
    • Plastic extrustion
  • Ability to successfully carry out a wide range of projects and resolve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge to perform mechanical/electro-mechanical design in the development or improvement of new or existing test fixtures and equipment.
  • Skills to interface with manufacturers, vendors, and contractors in the development of validation equipment and control systems.
  • Knowledgeable about machining, welding, fastener, and assembly technologies.
  • Builds equipment or performs complex repairs on existing equipment.
  • Experience and skills preferred in using CAD/CAM system.



An equivalent competency level acquired through a variation of these qualifications may be considered.



General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.

Target Pay Range:  $29.00 to $36.00 -  Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
