ETO Sterilization Production Equipment Technician

 

JOB SUMMARY

Under minimal supervision, performs and accounts for the sterilization of product and associated computer controls and material handling.  Includes diverse level of support of the applicable business product, sterilization needs and external customer manufacturers of medical devices. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Contributes to the use of ethylene oxide gas as an industrial sterilant in an effective and safe manner and contributes to compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Performs semi-complex inspection and evaluation of equipment functionality.
  • Accountable for product and process quality and required documentation.
  • Responsible for compliance with GMP’s, ISO, OSHA, and other regulatory compliance, within area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to team coordination and communication to resolve issues.
  • Participates in all required quality, process, team, and safety training.
  • Responsible for providing and receiving constructive feedback without shutting down communication among team members and customers.
  • Requires the ability to support a 24/7 processing capacity, by working any hours required including holidays and overtime as dictated by business needs. 
  • May be required to provide work direction to less experienced team mates and contract employees.
  • Contribute to the review and maintenance of department procedures and documentation.
  • Regular use of personal protection equipment including the use of supplied air respirator or SCBA.  
  • Occasional lifting and processing of materials while using supplied air respirator or SCBA.
  • Requires the ability to work in an environment where exposure to risk of ETO gas, moving mechanical parts, intermittent high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock may exist.
  • Works with customers to coordinate activities and produce materials that address project or technical problems of a moderate complexity within areas of responsibility with guidance from department manager and senior staff members.
  • Proper operation of fork lift and scissor lift in manufacturing environment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service with limited supervision.
  • Perform trade skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC, troubleshooting and repair of production machines with supervision.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities without supervision.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Performs documentation and regulatory recordkeeping responsibilities, some of which may be computerized.
  • Assists with spare parts inventory including purchasing spare parts, equipment, and/or services; ordering parts; and tracking material and parts usage
  • May oversee outside contractors.
  • Maintain working areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Attentive to sights and sounds of the work area and equipment to identify potential problems.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

High school diploma or GED.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years industrial maintenance/sterilization or equivalent experience.
  • Requires demonstrated proficiency in compliance to medical equipment manufacturing procedures, technical work, production, and or material handling. 

 

Skills

  • Requires good knowledge of a variety of material handling procedures including shipping, receiving, and inventory control systems. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of departmental procedures and the applicable requirements of a variety of governmental agencies and performs work in compliance with those requirements.
  • Knowledge of procedures for handling hazardous waste.
  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability and desire to learn of a wide variety of disciplines including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, chemical, electrical power, digital and analog electronics, and data communications.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Requires a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Terumo forklift certification.
  • Must complete all training and be certified within 6 months of hire.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 700 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.

Target Pay Range:  $34.00 to $42.00 -  Hourly pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
