JOB TITLE:  Deputy General Counsel

 

LOCATION: Hybrid On-Site or Remote

 

JOB SUMMARY

Key responsibilities include overseeing all regulatory and contract transactions, risk management, industry engagement, legal entity and product support. This leadership role will be instrumental in building and nurturing a high-performing team that upholds our culture of respect and sustained compliance growth.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Strategic Counsel: Provide strategic legal advice and counsel on all aspects of the company's operations, with a focus on medical device development, manufacturing, and commercialization.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee regulatory compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to FDA regulations, HIPAA, CLIA, and other applicable laws and regulations. Develop and implement compliance programs to mitigate risks and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Contract Management: Manage all legal aspects of contracts, licenses, and agreements, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Select, manage, and evaluate outside counsel to support legal initiatives effectively.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to more junior attorneys. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to maximize team performance.
  • Strategic Partnerships and Business Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to support business objectives and strategic initiatives. Drive business development efforts by negotiating complex partnerships and licensing agreements to expand the company's global footprint and enhance revenue streams.
  • Risk Management: Identify legal and compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate such risks effectively. Provide training and guidance to employees on legal and compliance matters to promote a culture of ethics and integrity.
  • Industry Engagement: Stay abreast of industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes affecting the medical device and life sciences industry. Represent the company in industry associations and forums to enhance the company's reputation and influence.
  • Product Launch Support: Lead legal support for product launches, including commercial transactions, promotional strategy, sales training, compliance, and medical affairs strategy.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree and member in good standing of a state bar.

 

Experience

  • 20+ years of experience in the life sciences industry providing legal support for research and development, commercialization, and regulatory compliance.
  • Combination of top law firm and in-house experience (Big Law and global life sciences company experience strongly preferred).
  • Comprehensive understanding of legal principles and regulations within the medical device and life sciences industry, including FDA regulations, HIPAA, CLIA, and international privacy laws such as GDPR.
  • Demonstrated leadership in previous roles, managing legal and compliance teams effectively.
  • Expertise in advising on regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, and developing and implementing corporate compliance and ethics programs.
  • Experience serving on senior management teams, interacting with and advising boards of directors on legal and compliance matters, and managing corporate governance procedures.
  • Track record in providing strategic legal and compliance business advice, counsel, and strategy to executive management teams, contributing to the overall growth and success of the organization.

 

Skills

  • Proven ability to drive business development initiatives, including complex negotiations for partnerships and collaborations to expand market presence and enhance revenue streams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively present complex legal matters to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the United States with eligibility to obtain a license to practice law in the state of Colorado using the single client license.  Current licensure in the state of Colorado is a plus.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.  There will be an occasional requirement to work outside of normal business hours, consistent with other similar level positions.  Moderate travel may be required (30%).

 

 

Target Pay Range:  $236,600.00 to $312,000  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  40.0%
