R&D Executive Chief of Staff
JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Chief of Staff (COS) will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the SVP and executive leadership team, independently driving initiatives forward with minimal guidance while maintaining meticulous attention to detail. This role requires a highly skilled leader who can anticipate needs, translate high-level vision into polished, concrete deliverables, and act as a trusted surrogate in senior-level interactions. The ideal candidate will excel at synthesizing complex information into clear, actionable outcomes while maintaining the SVP’s strategic priorities and style, whether in the form of executive communications, strategic decisions, or organizational initiatives. The COS will play a critical role in driving the company’s strategic vision, streamlining organizational processes, managing cross-functional projects, and maintaining clear communication between the SVP, leadership team, and various departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Strategic Leadership & Advisory Support:
- Serve as a key partner to the SVP, providing strategic advice and high-level support for corporate decision-making and strategic initiatives.
- Assist in the development, execution, and monitoring of the company’s strategic goals and objectives driving business priorities from conception to completion.
- Act as a sounding board for the SVP, offering insights and recommendations on business strategies and organizational challenges.
- Anticipate the SVP’s needs and independently develop solutions with minimal guidance
- Create high-impact executive presentations that align with corporate strategy and aesthetic standards
- Make decisions in place of the R&D SVP when they are traveling, focusing on new business ventures, or engaged in special projects.
- Translates abstract ideas into operational strategies, turning strategic vision into actionable plans.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- Lead and facilitate communication between various departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Act as a liaison between senior leadership, teams, and external stakeholders to maintain consistent messaging and action.
- Oversee and manage key cross-functional projects, driving collaboration and timely delivery of outcomes.
- Act as a liaison and coordinate activities across various functions within Terumo Corporation. Establish strong working relationships with Strategic Planning and Development (SPD) teams, Company Presidents, General Managers of Emerging Markets and Operations (GMEOs), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), and other necessary senior leadership partners.
- Operations & Process Optimization:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
- Establish and manage systems for monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), progress on corporate goals, and business outcomes.
- Ensure that projects, programs, and initiatives are executed effectively, within budget, and on time.
- Maintain comprehensive tracking system for the SVP’s commitments, action items, and delegated tasks
- Proactively manage follow-up on behalf of the SVP to ensure completion of initiatives
- Presents relevant concerns to the SVP in a structured and concise format to facilitate efficient decision-making.
- Conducts data gathering and analysis to offer decision support to facilitates presentation considerations to R&D Leadership and stakeholders at appropriate times.
- Governance & Executive Support:
- Coordinate and manage executive meetings, including preparing agendas, materials, and follow-up actions.
- Support the SVP in managing relationships with board members, investors, and other key stakeholders. Manage internal communications for the executive leadership team, ensuring clarity and alignment on key messages and updates.
- Special Projects & Initiatives:
- Lead and manage special initiatives or ad-hoc projects as directed by the SVP, which may involve market analysis, business development, or corporate restructuring.
- Design the project's operating model, establishing a Steering Committee, PMO, and team members, accompany projects through their lifecycle.
- Act as a “connector” for various teams, facilitating the movement of ideas, projects, and solutions across the organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management, Engineering or a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- 7-10 years of experience in a leadership or management role, ideally within a corporate or fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience as a Chief of Staff, Senior Operations Manager, or in a similar strategic role highly preferred.
- Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams, driving initiatives, and navigating complex business challenges.
- Experience with analyzing and monitoring budget metrics
- Demonstrated success in creating executive-level presentations and communications
Skills
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated expertise in business planning/control and business development, with a focus on implementing strategies aligned with the company objectives
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make high-level decisions quickly and with confidence.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong aesthetic sense and ability to create visually compelling executive presentations
- Deep understanding of business operations, including finance, marketing, and HR functions.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information.
- Exceptional ability to work autonomously, anticipate needs, and drive results with minimal direction

Target Pay Range: $184,100.00 to $230,100.00 - Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base: 30.0%
