JOB TITLE:  Category Lead (Indirect)

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

As a Category Lead, you will create and implement sourcing strategies for at least one complex services category (e.g. Corporate Services (HR, ITS, Finance, Clinical), Facilities, Sales & Marketing, I&D, etc.).  A Category Lead focuses on maximizing leveraged spend, spend under management, and applies consistent and best practice market diligence, costing, negotiation and compliance methods to each spending category.  Category Leads manage the development, implementation and ongoing support of category strategies at a global and regional level to support the accelerated pace of our business.

 

Above and beyond strategic sourcing activities, a Category Lead needs to align with customer objectives, capitalizing on transformational opportunities and drive overall value including achieving revenue and savings targets. Category Leads must discern external variables (supply markets, cost drivers, industry trends) and the internal landscape (culture, organizational structure, priorities) to create strong internal and external relationships and successfully develop category strategies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Focus on minimizing cost and maximizing value in the procurement process by applying best practices across assigned categories.
  • Seek out cost reduction opportunities and take initiative to achieve savings goals.
  • Share accountability for business results by identifying and implementing strategies and solutions that improve business performance.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies within a matrixed team of sourcing professionals from different geographic, cultural, personal, and professional backgrounds.
  • Drive supplier rationalization strategies, supplier negotiations, spend under management, benchmarking, and other process improvements.
  • Lead supplier selection process across multiple categories, internal teams, and regions.
  • Manages supplier relationships, facilitate periodic business reviews and maintain overall supplier performance (Supplier Relationship Management).
  • Independently negotiate and draft contracts using legal templates in accordance with business requirements.
  • Participate and engage cross-functionally with other areas of the company to ensure sourcing initiatives and interests are represented.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and programs in alignment with sourcing strategies.
  • Participate in processing of purchase requisitions, purchase orders and other activities to meet business expectations and requirements as needed.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, improvement and compliance of procurement policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION / SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Proficient in procurement processes, category management, contract management, financial/data analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier management, technology utilization and strategic planning
  • Significant experience in managing the procurement lifecycle for major projects, including RFx development, drafting Statements of Work, contract negotiations, and contract fulfilment.
  • Experience with strategic sourcing, outsourcing, global sourcing, supplier management and contract/risk management.
  • Provide strong business acumen and strategic alignment with key business partners within the company and within the Indirect Procurement team, mentoring functional procurement knowledge to show value as well as leverage cross functional accountability to deliver value and manage risk
  • Must be analytical with the ability to think strategically and globally
  • Ability to get things done and multi-task; acts with a sense of urgency; willingly takes on tactical roles to achieve objectives; able to prioritize.
  • Demonstrated high degree of independence, requiring minimal supervision from senior management
  • Solid negotiation skills.
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • SAP, eProcurement experience is highly desired.

Education / Experience

  • Minimum 8 years in Sourcing or Procurement
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • C.P.M., C.P.P or C.P.P.C. Certification a plus
  • APICS and/or CPSM certification or willingness to work towards same.

Travel

  • Some travel may be required in support of regional and global categorization of Indirect Services.

     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting to 20 pounds.
