Category Lead, Indirect Procurement


Job Summary

Provides strategic development, direction, and overall management for Terumo BCT’s IT category strategy for indirect procurement, and other categories as assigned. Continuously improves the Company’s purchasing practices by identifying and leading efforts to proactively consolidate category spend, manage supplier performance, mitigate risk, gain visibility to total spend and reduce total costs. Perform spend analysis, market & supplier assessments to ensure best in class strategic sourcing strategies and category spend management.


Essential Duties

  • Responsibilities include performing spend and market analysis, conducting Requests for Proposals, negotiating contracts, and pricing, and fostering business and supplier relationships.
  • Drive cost savings partnerships with internal stakeholders to define and support indirect spend requirements to meet the needs of the company in terms of total cost, quality, service, and delivery.
  • Ability to forge close working relationships throughout the company.
  • Will help drive the development and execution of IT software and hardware strategies and associated infrastructure, including telecommunications.
  • Ability to understand business/company requirements and apply Strategic Sourcing practices to support the business.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements.
  • Prepare business cases, including ROI models and effectively present cost savings proposals to appropriate parties for approval and qualification.
  • Ensure compliance of the purchasing department with legal requirements (JSOX), to the formal procurement policies and preferred supplier agreements. 
  • Responsible for keeping current on the supply market, trends and pricing and maintaining awareness of best practices.


Minimum Qualifications Requirements



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential function of the job may be considered.
  • Master’s degree preferred.



  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in IT related strategic sourcing, category management and procurement operations in a large, multi-national company.
  • Experience with software licensing (both perpetual and SaaS), IT services and hardware, and procurement of network and telecommunications IT subcategories.
  • Demonstrated sourcing experience leading RFx’s, conducting supplier management activities, and managing a sourcing category for IT and other categories.
  • Proficient at standard sourcing and category management concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proven critical thinking by translating, analyzing, and crafting solutions from financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Excellent understanding of contracts and contract management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and possess the ability to thrive in a continuous improvement environment.



  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, moving seamlessly from tactical to strategic tasks.
  • Must have a keen eye for detail, provide insights based on market conditions and trends, optimize value from/with suppliers, and improve and influence the decision-making process.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute negotiation strategies.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, reliable, persuasive and an excellent team player.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with diplomacy and tact while maintaining appropriate assertiveness and persistence.
  • Proven ability to positively persuade and influence decision making, at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize well and maintain appropriate balance in a fast-paced, heavy-workload environment.
  • Sound problem solving skills in both functional areas of operations and interpersonal relationship management.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • CPSM, CPM, CPP, CPIM, or other designation preferred but not required

Target Pay Range:  $92,300.00 to $115,300.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
