JOB TITLE:  Field Application Scientist, CTT

 

JOB SUMMARY

Terumo BCT is a global leader in the manufacturing of blood and cell processing equipment. As the field of cell therapy is a fast-moving, ever-changing landscape, at Terumo BCT we take pride in providing relevant automated solutions to researchers and developers in cell and gene therapy manufacturing to enable them to bring tomorrow’s therapies to market.   As part of the Cell Therapy and Technology (CTT) Group, this position will play an important role in the sales process and engage with prospective customers in partnership with the regional sales team to qualify leads, assess readiness for automation, developing evaluation plans, and product training for the entire CTT portfolio. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • As critical part of the sales process, the Field Application Scientist partner closely with the sales team in customer qualification, platform evaluations, and customer support/training.
  • Responsible to develop study plan in evaluation and drive process transfer from customer’s existing process to Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies platforms.
  • Assist the customer during the planning phase to ensure all reagents, supplies, and documentation is in place before the training start.   
  • Coordinates, directs, and conducts customer training programs, as well as, supports field associates with assistance from internal scientific resources as needed.
  • Provide technical support and assistance throughout the sales process to help ensure customers receive the technical support required to transition from manual processes to automation.  
  • Works closely with customer implementation teams and staff to ensure an efficient implementation of Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies products and services.
  • Serve as subject matter experts for the CTT portfolio (devices, solutions, and applications) in the field as well as for internal associates.
  • Responsible to gather and distill insights from the field in working with cell & gene therapy researchers and developers, and further understand of their needs.  
  • Responsible to apply up to date local and federal regulations that control cell therapy, manufacturing, and clinical application (such as FDA, GMP, FACT, ISO etc. depending at the designated region).
  • Identifies, solves, documents, and provides written solutions to recurring, complex and/or unusual customer problems in a timely manner.
  • Performs ongoing market assessment of customers' technical needs and problems and provides feedback to Product Development Team to recommend appropriate changes of the product or service.
  • Identifies the need for, defines, and develops protocols for Terumo System products in cooperation with customers and evaluation partners.
  • Frequent communication with industry representatives, customers, and regulatory agencies on project matters.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

Master’s degree, or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.  PhD degree preferred.

 

Experience

Minimum MS +3-year experience

  • Experience in cell culture and cell processing.  Experience with different cell processing platform such as: bioreactors, cell/separation-expansion, cryopreservation, and flow cytometry applied to systems such as stem/cell /differentiation, cell engineering and virus production.
  • Commercial/Sales experience.
  • Experience in GMP setting is a plus.

 

Skills

  • Proficient communication skills in engaging stakeholders at various levels within the organization.
  • Strong, demonstrated expertise in cell processing, including cell culture.
  • Prefer solid understanding of the regulatory requirements in cell therapy.
  • Demonstrated ability, desire, and self-confidence to teach a wide variety of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop training programs and documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of scientific requirements associated with cell therapy research facilities including organization, equipment, and certification processes.
  • Sound scientific approach to evaluations and problem solving.
  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • A valid Driver’s License is required.

 

Physical Requirements

General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.

Additional Physical Requirements

Extensive travel required (40-60%).

 

 

Target Pay Range:  $94,500.00 to $118,100.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
