JOB TITLE:  Director, Manufacturing Operations (Plant Manager)

 

JOB SUMMARY

Directs the activities of the Manufacturing Operations teams to achieve the company’s business objectives.

Collaboration with global support functions for execution of production, implementation of projects in line with strategic plan and problem solving.  Responsibilities include tactical execution of manufacturing operations and timelines, streamlining processes, fostering innovation and creative solutions that meet both internal and external customer needs, while ensuring the quality and safety of our products. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Manages and provides direction to production, quality, manufacturing engineering, local supply chain and other leaders in support of the achievement of business objectives
  • Participates in the short- and long-term planning process that establishes objectives for local operations and global commercial objectives
  • Responsible for creating and tracking the factory budget including cost estimation, staffing, and timelines.  
  • Communicates on all levels with senior management, including technical, strategic, and business
  • Identifies project and new process opportunities and is able to articulate value and risk of opportunities
  • Ensures compliance with Terumo BCT Quality System regulations and safe working practices
  • Utilizes technical skills to evaluate proposed design, adaptations, and modifications to manufacturing processes
  • Identifies gaps and develops best practices and process improvements for project or functional area
  • Responsible for the review, evaluation, and development of the operations team within a cross-functional, matrix environment
  • Manages and directs the facilities and site operations of BCT global headquarters
  • Responsible for identification, mitigation and communication of operations plan risks
  • Provides input to, or determines, make/buy decisions based on quality, schedule and cost, as well as provides alternative manufacturing or design options that ensure intended performance, quality, schedule and cost requirements
  • Management of the local business continuity strategy/process

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

Knowledge and experience typically gained through a Bachelor’s degree (engineering or related discipline),

preferably an advanced degree.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience, 5 of which in an operations management capacity.
  • Multi-national manufacturing operations experience in a similar senior leadership role, preferably in a matrix management structure.
  • Prefer medical device or similarly regulated industry experience

 

Skills

  • Ability to solve complex manufacturing problems, interpret and communicate complex engineering requirements in a manner that allows maximum product flexibility without compromising quality
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and to influence peers, external colleagues and executive management
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with complex machinery, manufacturing processes and associated support teams
  • Capability to interact with diplomacy and tact while maintaining appropriate assertiveness and persistence
  • Must have highly desirable leadership traits, including the demonstration of the following competencies:
    • Command the respect of an operations team with high volume deliverables
    • History of developing both technology and people
    • Documented involvement in the development of process excellence
    • Disciplined execution, drive for results and meeting agreed upon deadlines
    • History of success with building products that meet customer needs and quality standards required in a regulated industry
    • Experience with cross disciplinary teams such as product management, marketing management, manufacturing, services, sales, IT, legal, clinical, regulatory affairs and quality, project management, HR functions, and other functions within an organization.
  • Passion for, and demonstrated track record with, lean six sigma thinking/processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others with strong interpersonal / conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing operations, process validation, engineering, tactical execution, customer service, professional communications, cross functionality, computer applications, problem solving, strategic reasoning, teamwork, change management, business acumen and business ethics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning, budgeting and project management toward achievement of annual, long term, and strategic business objectives
