JOB TITLE: Sr Electrical Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

This high-impact role requires originality and independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of electrical engineering techniques for medical device development. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll lead device sustaining engineering activities, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.  You'll apply your technical expertise at the intersection of technological advancement and patient safety, developing innovative solutions that differentiate our products in the marketplace. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Develop and maintain expertise in electrical architecture and specifications that align with system requirements and regulatory standards, including detailed circuit designs, schematics, and PCB layouts.
  • Plan and execute electrical verification testing protocols for regulatory compliance, including EMC/EMI and electrical safety testing per IEC standards, while developing and implementing mitigation strategies with robust documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership in design reviews, offering innovative approaches and mentoring junior engineers, while researching and integrating appropriate new electrical technologies to maintain technological leadership.
  • Lead electrical characterization, verification, and validation activities at both the component and system level, to ensure product performance, safety, and compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with embedded software engineers on hardware-software integration to maximize system performance and reliability, while leading design transfer activities by creating comprehensive electrical documentation packages.
  • Identify and mitigate electrical safety risks throughout the product lifecycle, applying creative problem-solving to address technical challenges while highlighting potential risks to avoid serious delays and resource expenditure.
  • Serve as technical lead for smaller projects or significant portions of major projects, managing resources effectively to achieve objectives.
  • Present complex technical information effectively and respond to questions from technical staff and management, while working cooperatively within cross-functional team environments to influence outcomes.
  • Track and improve key electrical engineering metrics to drive continuous improvement in design quality and efficiency.
  • Perform independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation of standard techniques in creating innovative electrical designs for medical devices.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through innovative engineering solutions that address unmet needs in the medical device space.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide work direction to junior engineers on electrical design tasks and testing activities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and other functional groups on yield improvement, regulatory compliance, and product support initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline required.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Medical device development experience strongly preferred.

Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in working with circuit designs, including analog/digital electronics, power management systems, and sensor integration for medical applications, with proven ability to apply originality and independent judgment in meeting complex product requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of medical device electrical safety standards (IEC 60601-1) and EMC/EMI compliance (IEC 60601-1-2) with ability to incorporate safety by design principles throughout the development process.
  • Proficiency in electronic design automation (EDA) and EECAD tools with demonstrated ability to create production-ready designs that balance innovation with manufacturability and reliability.
  • Experience developing comprehensive electrical specifications and test strategies that enable verification of both standard and novel design elements in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Strong technical leadership skills with ability to influence cross-functional teams to achieve optimal system integration and product outcomes.
