Related to the role

As the Leader of Government Affairs and Public Policy in Terumo Blood & Cell Technology in Europe, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to effectively engage with government bodies, policymakers, and other stakeholders across Europe. Your role will involve shaping public policy, advocating for favorable regulatory frameworks, and establishing strong relationships with key decision-makers to drive the company's objectives and ensure a favorable business environment. This is a senior manager position that requires understanding of the medical technology industry, strong communication skills, and strong political acumen.

Responsibilities:

1. Government Affairs Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive government affairs strategy for Europe, aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze policy developments, identifying potential risks and opportunities for the business.
  • Provide guidance to senior leadership on government relations and public policy matters.

 

2. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials and industry associations across Europe.
  • Represent the company's interests in high-level meetings, conferences, and industry events, advocating for favorable policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, compliance, regulatory and business development teams, to ensure a coordinated and unified approach to government affairs.

 

3. Policy Development and Advocacy:

  • Stay abreast of healthcare, ESG and trade policies, legislation, and regulations impacting the medical technology industry in Europe.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and shape policy positions that align with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Engage with policymakers and relevant stakeholders to advocate for favorable policies and regulatory frameworks that support the growth and innovation of the medical technology industry.
  • Engage in public affairs activities, including participating in industry associations, conferences, and public consultations, to advance our organization's interests.

 

 

4. Thought Leadership and Communication:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on government affairs and public policy, providing insights and thought leadership internally and externally.
  • Develop and deliver compelling advocacy materials, position papers, and presentations to effectively communicate the company's perspective on key issues.
  • Monitor and analyze public sentiment, media coverage, and public opinion related to the use of blood, tissues and cells (Including blood and blood components, plasma and plasma derivatives, cells and their use in therapies), blood supply chain, and access to care.

5. Team leader and business partner

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather information, develop positions, and shape policy agendas to align with organizational goals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, briefings, and reports to senior management and external stakeholders on government affairs initiatives and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with government regulations and assist in obtaining necessary approvals and permits.
  • Manage external consultants to support government affairs efforts, ensuring effective and ethical representation of our organization.
  • Stay updated on political, economic, and social trends, assessing their potential impact on our organization, and providing recommendations for strategic decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Administration, Law, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in government affairs, public policy, or related roles, ideally within the blood supply chain, ATMPs, Pharma, or Medtech space.
  • Knowledge of government processes, legislation, and regulatory frameworks at the local, regional, and national levels.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex policy issues clearly and persuasively.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing government relations strategies to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a track record of successfully influencing policy outcomes.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government officials, industry peers, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to collaborate and coordinate across multiple departments.
  • Proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to navigate complex and rapidly changing political landscapes.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to conducting government affairs activities in a transparent and compliant manner.
