REMOTE IN A CENTRALLY LOCATED EU COUNTRY OR ON CAMPUS IN ZAVENTEM, BELGIUM

Regional Medical Affairs Director develops regional strategy for the EMEA field medical organization, provides tactical direction on thought leader engagement initiatives, ensures compliant execution, based on Terumo Core Values, of the medical plan aligned with the regional Integrated Action Plan (IAP), and develops organizational talent. Serves as one of the leaders on the regional cross-functional leadership team, offering medical insights from the field to inform the regional strategy and IAP. Translates strategic imperatives into actionable medical field initiatives, in collaboration with strategic medical leads, regional marketing and other internal stakeholders. Determines the vision, strategy, and goals for the regional field medical team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable for all medical activities in the region, ensure seamless and compliant rollout and execution.
  • Define and lead medical stakeholder mapping and engagement strategy for prioritized therapy areas.
  • Assigns roles and responsibilities to individual MSLs, ensuring performance and compliance with Terumo core values and policies.
  • Monitor and identify trends from a robust medical insights collection, using MSL interactions and insights, stakeholder relationship management tool, thought leader intelligence platform, medical information requests, speaker events, conferences, and other sources. Disseminates insights to key internal stakeholders.
  • Lead projects of considerable complexity including development and management of budgetary and personnel resources, to create solutions which align with and support regional strategic objectives.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and development through field visits, KPIs, competency evaluation, feedback from peers, best practice sharing opportunities and other tools.
  • Develop medical affairs plan for major regional congresses, ensure deliverables and attendance to enhance scientific knowledge, gather insights and engage with thought leaders.
  • Ensure alignment of field medical communication with scientific platforms and regional communication objectives.
  • Lead large Medical Affairs initiatives in the region, such as advisory boards, medical education events etc., through direct reports and in collaboration with regional cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with regional leaders to influence the global HEOR, RWE, clinical and scientific studies and IIS areas of interest. Support post-marketing studies.
  • Identify opportunities by evaluating the unmet medical need and existing standards of care, to help develop business cases.
  • Develop projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the team ensuring operational excellence, liaise with other regional field leaders and medical affairs operations to share best practices and standardize execution.
  • Optimize compliant collaborations and alignment among all customer facing teams.
  • Contribute to internal and external training initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

MD, PhD, PharmD or equivalent qualification or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Experience

Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience in medical affairs, scientific affairs, research and development or equivalent functions, 8+ years’ experience in medical device, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry in the region.

  • Ability to interact with and senior leaders in both medical and commercial functions to convey the field medical vision and implementation strategies.

  • Knowledge about health economics and market access is a big advantage.
  • Strong business acumen and impeccable integrity, strong management skills, decisive, resourceful.
  • Scientific outlook and ability to uncover new therapeutic opportunities. Innovative mindset.
  • Knowledge about compliance and regulatory rules and regulations in EMEA.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to management, customers, thought leaders and healthcare professionals.

  • Ability to indirectly influence colleagues at all levels and across functions in a highly collaborative style, while building strong working relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.

 

TRAVEL

Travel up to 60% including international travel.
