Software Localization Specialist



Independently analyze and implement best localization strategy and methodologies for various software products. Perform localization on software products by applying efficient process. Assist in designing, testing, and reviewing new or enhanced software for software development/QA teams so that the software products can be properly internationalized and be easy to localize to other languages. Writes programs, if necessary, to manipulate software strings and to automate localization process so that multiple languages can be handled efficiently without repeated/redundant work.



  • Works on any aspect of software localization projects including language related analysis, testing, and quality assurance to create high quality localized software products.
  • Works with localization service providers, translators, in-country reviewers, software developers, and technical writers to accomplish localization goals as a team.
  • Designs, develops, and evaluates localization engineering processes and concepts to determine methods and tools required for localizing product.
  • Provides localization analysis and improve internationalization/localization approach and must maintain traceability of all changes taking place during all project phases.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate action.
  • Analyzes scope of production work to create localized products of high quality without duplicated work.
  • Determines re-usable and updated data, and must pre-process files to varied strings, utility tools and file formats and must ensure that localized product matches the latest source.
  • Automates redundant/repetitive tasks using, such as, scripting, batch process, and other automated methods.
  • Researches and applies innovative localization technologies and industry standards. Maintains all environments and localized assets for future use (software files, translation memories, and screenshots)



  • Interacts on a regular basis with other functional groups and localization service providers on technical and/or administrative matters.
  • Be responsible for localization budget and cost estimates.





Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or, equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.



Minimum 2 years experience




  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications in multi-lingual environments and skills to use them effectively.
  • Ability to manipulate different language string data across multiple files in deferent formats by maintaining correct text encoding and character sets.
  • Knowledge of regular expression to change the target strings in non-English characters.
  • Ability to manipulate graphic images with a variety of software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Requires team-oriented attitude and vision. Influence work group and cross-functional team members and interacts where input and suggestions are provided.
  • Requires being detail and quality oriented with system integration skills to make a seamless and efficient localization platform using different tools.
  • Knowledge of localization related software tools and industry standard specifications such as string data modeling: XLIFF, and TMX.
  • Programming skills to create necessary tools to resolve and improve localization processes.
  • Troubleshooting skills to effectively and timely resolve language issues. Flexibility to handle simultaneously multiple language projects of varying complexity/size.
  • Knowledge of Rainbow open-source localization tool.
  • Knowledge of SDL Trados Studio localization tool.
  • Knowledge of foreign language(s), preferred.



An equivalent competency level acquired through a variation of these qualifications may be considered.


Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Target Pay Range:  $84,100.00 to $105,100.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  7.0%
