The Director of Product Development leads product development teams responsible for the design and development of Terumo Blood and Cellular Technology’s (TerumoBCT’ s) portfolio of blood collection and cell therapy products. The Director oversees the development of new products from requirements generation and design conceptualization to manufacturing transfer and corresponding sustaining activities.

 

Responsible for development projects across applicable product platforms.  Focuses on project objectives and participates in determining the long-term direction of the products and the business.  Develops goals, plans, and strategies to ensure effective achievement of business objectives. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Directs development projects and teams from through all stages of product development, design transfer and product launch
  • Cultivates a mindset and culture of continuous improvement, accountability and resilience
  • Lead and develops highly competent teams capable of executing the strategic plan with deep technical skills, innovation, and engineering expertise
  • Ensures teams are using and developing state of the art enabling technology such as simulation and modeling and advanced prototyping to bring products to market faster and at reduced costs
  • Establishes and develops departmental policies, procedures, and strategic objectives; creates and distributes metrics and monitors success in achievement of objectives; Facilitates remediation when off track
  • Works across diverse regional and functional boundaries to promote collaboration and teamwork to achieve business objectives
  • Fosters a culture that values differences, builds top talent and is a role model for commitment to the company’s vision and values
  • Effectively communicates with senior management and external customers across a spectrum of areas related to product development including technical, strategic, and business details
  • Identifies project and new product opportunities and can articulate value and risk of opportunities across multiple portfolios
  • Ensures product design and documentation meets FDA, global regulatory requirements as well as design controls and Quality Management System
  • Accountable for schedule and budget accomplishment including creation and management of project cost estimation, staffing, and timelines  

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

  • B. S. degree in Engineering required
  • M.S. or PhD degree in Engineering combined with management degree preferred

 

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in medical device or similar regulated industry, 10 of which have been in a senior leadership capacity
  • Senior management level experience launching products in diverse global environments
  • Demonstrated ability to balance the tension between launch speed and relevant feature sets
  • Requires experience with program and project management methods and tools
  • Ability to partner effectively with teams across disciplines such as product management, marketing management, manufacturing, services, sales, IT, legal, clinical, regulatory affairs and quality, project management, etc.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret and communicate complex disposables engineering requirements in a manner that allows maximum product flexibility without compromising quality standards
  • Capacity to define and communicate engineering challenges and provide guidance to top management in developing and implementing positive and proactive solutions 
  • Advanced understanding and application of Design Controls, Quality Management System to product development
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource modeling and allocation

 

Target Pay Range:  $147,200.00 to $184,000.00  -  Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base:  30.0%
